In brief
State broadcaster IRIB TV noted unexplained blasts in four southern Iranian counties, while Iranian news agencies IRNA and Tasnim offered different explanations, citing either enemy attacks or Iranian maritime traffic management. U.S. forces also reported a “minor” strike on Qeshm, and President Donald Trump referenced new U.S. strikes as minor. The divergent narratives illustrate uncertainty over the cause of the explosions.
Xinhua reported explosions heard around November 7 in four southern Iranian counties—Qeshm, Sirik, Jask and Bandar Abbas—after state‑run IRIB TV saw the blasts on Saturday night. The agency said it was still unclear whether the explosions came from an enemy attack or were the result of Iranian armed forces firing at "violating" vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
IRNA earlier on the day had described two explosions on Qeshm Island itself, with their correspondent stating the blasts had occurred within the island’s boundaries. The agency did not comment on the cause or the nature of the detonation.
Tasnim, the semi‑official news agency, cited an informed source who said the sounds were linked to the Iranian armed forces’ management of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and that no projectile had struck the island. The report suggested the explosions were the result of domestic military exercises rather than an external attack.
The U.S. Army, meanwhile, announced that it had carried out “minor” attacks targeting Qeshm Island early Saturday, with two missiles reportedly hitting the island. No details were released about the damage inflicted or the target of the strikes.
"Minor" attacks were described by the United States Army against Iranian territory.
President Donald Trump also weighed in on Friday, noting that U.S. forces had launched new strikes targeting Iran’s air defense systems and describing the action as "minor." The statement was made in a broader context of ongoing U.S. military activity in the Middle East, but Trump did not specify a target or provide further detail about the alleged strikes.
