Pakistan's Supreme Court orders ex‑Prime Minister Imran Khan be moved to hospital from jail

Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered that jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours for medical examination, following complaints about his deteriorating health.

The three‑judge panel said Khan would be allowed weekly meetings with family and telephone calls with his sons while in medical custody.

Khan, who has been imprisoned since 2023 on corruption charges he calls politically motivated, suffered from vision loss and other conditions that inmate authorities have allegedly failed to treat adequately.

After the court order, an eye specialist will be involved in his treatment. Supporters are warned not to gather at the hospital, a breach of the court order.

Imran Khan, 73, served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 2018 to 2022 and remains a significant figure in Pakistani politics despite his incarceration.
